14 - 04 - 10  Press Release

Just in time for the start of the Easter holidays in Schleswig-Holstein, there is a special type of premiere in Lübeck-Dänischburg: LUV SHOPPING, the first IKEA shopping centre in Germany, is opening its doors to the public on 16 April at 9 am. Bernd Saxe (Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck), Gabriele Schopenhauer (City President), Olivia Kempke (Lübeck Management), John Tegnér (Managing Director Inter IKEA Centre Group), Rainer Bastians (Managing Director Inter IKEA Centre Germany, IICD) and shopping centre manager Tatiana Prokhorova will hand over LUV SHOPPING to the visitors with the revelation of an installation and the traditional cutting of the ribbon.

Colourful mix of small local and larger retailers
"We are very pleased to be able to offer our customers both IKEA and a diverse mix of smaller, local retailers and larger national chains," says Rainer Bastians, Managing Director of IICD. The product range at LUV SHOPPING extends from baked goods and clothing to furniture and marzipan as well as shoes and toys. There are a total of 53 shops. Approximately 95% of the space is let out at the time of the opening, some of which has been let to retailers from Lübeck, Bad Schwartau and the surrounding area.

Since interior decoration is very expensive for individual tenants, so far approximately 40 shops are able to open on 16 April. "We anticipate that all our tenants will have set up their shops and can open them in the next few days," says Tatiana Prokhorova.

Travel by bus and soon by train to LUV, e-petrol station for electric cars
IKEA and Inter IKEA Centre Germany are investing EUR 120 million in Lübeck-Dänischburg and are creating approximately 400 new jobs. In collaboration with IKEA, LUV SHOPPING operates one of the largest geothermal energy plants in Germany for heating and cooling, harnesses well water for the sanitation facilities, a solar plant for warm water and photovoltaics for electricity production. There are charge columns for electric cars in the entrance area. IKEA and LUV SHOPPING are also easy to reach without a car - they have their own bus stop (route 33) and as of the 2014 train schedule there will be a train stop via which IKEA and LUV SHOPPING can be reached from Lübeck city centre within six minutes.

Child care in LUV Junior and family rooms for nappy-changing and feeding
Just like IKEA, LUV SHOPPING would particularly like to offer families with children a nice and relaxing shopping experience. For this reason there is LUV junior, our own child care service in the shopping centre, a small play area in the entrance area and family rooms for parents with very small children for nappy-changing and baby-feeding.

IKEA Lübeck has already been open since 14 March. "We planned two openings from the start," says LUV Manager Tatiana Prokhorova. "We are opening here the first IKEA shopping centre in Germany and would like to celebrate this in a fitting manner together with the people of the region on a dedicated day, with many sales on the part of the local retailers." In a large competition, in which many tenants are involved, there is a LUV SHOPPING voucher worth EUR 5,000 to be won, as well as many other prizes in the form of gifts and vouchers.

Opening times on the opening day: 9 am to 9 pm
On the opening day itself, LUV SHOPPING is open from 9 am to 9 pm. Otherwise it will always be open Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm, with Edeka and Hornbach open from 8 am.
